4 Tips on How to Properly Prepare for Cold and Flu Season

As we enter winter, it is going to get colder, and cold and flu season could quickly sneak up on us. Use this post as a helpful guide to guarding yourself from these viruses and staying nice and healthy.

Tip #1: Mask Up

First and foremost, let’s get some gear to make sure you are staying as safe as possible. COVID-19 proved that wearing masks aided in lessening the spread of viruses. A medical mask or an N95, both of which you can purchase in bulk on Amazon, will help with this. Wearing a mask when you are in large areas and around a large group of people will protect both your health and the health of others during this season.

Tip #2: Hydration

Second, make sure you are staying hydrated! This is something that can carry into your day-to-day even outside of cold and flu season. Staying hydrated will help regulate blood pressure, which will, in turn, help blood circulation for your immune system. Drinking enough fluids throughout the day is a small step to helping you stay healthy.

Tip #3: Clean Hands

Third, wash your hands with soap and water. It shouldn’t have to be said, but it is a great reminder to give during this time. Most viruses are spread through contact, but if you are making sure that your hands are as clean as possible and as often as possible, then that is one less thing to worry about. If you do not have access to soap and water, you may use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

Tip #4: Treating Symptoms

Fourth, make sure you’re taking the right medication for your symptoms. Research has shown that combination medications such as DayQuil, Nyquil, Theraflu, etc., are not effective at relieving sickness or symptoms. The most they will do is put you to sleep. If you know what symptoms you have, it would be best to get medication to treat those symptoms. For example, getting a behind the counter decongestant will help with chest or nasal congestion. For fever and headaches, Tylenol’s active ingredient, Acetaminophen, will relieve fevers and headaches. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist about what will help you the most in your time of need.
