WOLFstock Artist Spotlight #4: BLYSS!

By: Yade Medina

WOLFstock is this coming Monday! The 21st will mark not only WOLFstock 2025, but WOLFRadio’s fifteenth anniversary as a radio station.

If you like music, food and fun WOLFstock is the place to go! Our staff will be working the event this Monday, so if you hear a familiar voice from any of our shows or podcasts make sure to say hi!

Our last artist interviewee for this year’s WOLFstock is BLYSS! They are currently a student here with us and we had a pretty chill conversation!

How long have you been making music?

BLYSS comments that he started to DJ when he was thirteen, and it started as making mixes for friends, and more messing around at first.

He mentions that he did not think that he would ever actually start playing gigs, but is happy that he has begun to.

What made you want to pursue music?

BLYSS mentions that he did not initially intend to make music a career, but does recall his love of techno music.

“I watched some live sets from Ultra, and I was just like ‘I want to learn how to do that.'”

He talks about how it had begun as a hyper fixation and how it just continued to evolve, until he ended up where he is.

What is your biggest goal as a DJ?

“To leave an impact, whether it is on people, the industry, even if its something super small.”

He discusses how if he can even have one person say that they enjoyed the music that he played that he will feel successful.

I agreed with him and we mentioned briefly just how important and cool that feeling is as an artist of any medium.

What stage do you dream about playing someday?

“I mentioned Ultra, and playing the main stage there in Miami would be a dream come true. Especially at night closing things out.

The energy there is just fantastic. Its any DJ’s dream to play there.”

What is something new you would want to do musically?

BLYSS discusses how he had previously wanted to learn guitar, though it is just something that has not happened yet.

“I’m still learning and trying at it.”

We laughed briefly before moving on!

How did your environment affect your self expression through music?

“Getting inspiration. We share our creativity and express those creative freedoms, you know?”

He mentions that DJs are not shy to mention what kind of music they play.

Then we discuss how his community really wants to create unique and entertaining music for others to listen to.

BLYSS talks about how gathering inspiration and making it your own is a very important part of the music that he and his friends make.

What is something really cool that you remember making?

I stumped him for a bit before he let me know the answer!

“I played a show and I remember I did a double.” BLYSS describes this as combining two songs and playing them like one, although I believe differently from a mashup like our buddy Scobes would do here.

He talks about how much the crowd liked it and the feeling of happiness that he felt at that moment.

“Being able to garner a reaction like that is what being a DJ is all about.”

How excited are you to perform at WOLFstock this year:

“I remember last year I was at WOLFstock and I saw darksoulsthug performing and I just thought, ‘Yeah I want to do that'”

BLYSS also mentioned just how excited he is to be playing in his hometown!

What are you most excited to see at WOLFstock?

“A lot of diversity and good vibes!”

He touched on the idea of helping people hear something they didn’t know they wanted to hear.

“It is a perfect place to broaden your palate.” Without bias, I can say that I could not agree more!

How important is collaboration?

“Super important.” BLYSS says how sometimes music is not a one person job.

He talks about how important it is to be able to ask for help.

BLYSS notes how even with DJ’ing, there might only be one name on a song or track, but so many people worked together to produce something like that, whether it be mixing or composing.

“It’s never a one man job.”

This closes out our final WOLFstock artist spotlight before our annual music festival this year. There are a few artists we didn’t get to sit with, but they will still be at WOLFstock 2025, playing music you won’t be able to forget!

Remember to join us this coming Monday, April 21st for WOLFstock 2025 and WOLF Radio’s 15th anniversary!!!!
