Music Moment (with M.C. Scobes) – A New Beginning

Well, well, well, well, well, well, well

Here’s your music moment… with M.C. Scobes.

Introduction

What’s up, everyone? It’s your boy, Mr. M.C. Scobes, aka “The Anointed Blogger,” aka DJ Scobes, and your’s truly, Matthew Scoby, and I’m here to give you another Music Moment… but in blog form. I haven’t done something like this before, but I wanted to switch things up for my last semester here at the University of West Georgia. Might as well try something new, am I right? I always said that music is forever changing and evolving, as does my discussion about music.

Where have you been, M.C. Scobes?

Before discussing what happened in the music realm, let’s catch up real quick. Many things have happened since the last you heard of me, from my “M.C. Hour” finale on WOLF Radio and “The Night Howl” during the spring semester. I finally got my first campus job as a summer remote coordinator at WOLF Radio, and as of now, I’m the new music director for the station. It still surprises me that all of this happened within the past months… TIME FLYS BY QUICK, PEOPLE! MAKE EVERY MOMENT YOU GET COUNT!!

Besides doing the Mashup Mondays on WOLF Radio’s social media, it will be announced by the time this blog comes out that I brought an old WOLF Radio show back to life. I am now the executive producer of “The Feed.”🎉 To the true M.C. Scobes fans out there, y’all will know that in 2019, I was previously a special guest for the previous version of the show the day after the Money Showcase event they hosted.

(Let me know in the comments if I should do Part 2 of the interview reaction!)

This is something that I wanted to do for the longest, but I wanted to find the right people to help make this happen. I’m so grateful to Ty, E’Shawn, and Lyric (who was in the radio practicum course with me last semester) for even giving this show a shot. Believe me, when I say that behind the scenes, we had ups and downs, but in the end, we saw it through to the end. So please ensure you tune in every Thursday at 4 PM EST on thewolfuwg.com, the Audacy app, or our YouTube channel (Waylin WOLF) for the live stream. The first episode’s replay is now on the website, so let me know how we did on my Instagram (@theonlymcscobes).

Now that we got that out of the way, LET’S TALK MUSIC!!!

What did I miss in the music industry?

I have missed a lot in terms of the Super Bowl announcement with Kendrick Lamar performing in New Orleans instead of Lil Wayne, the jail updates from Lil Durk and Young Thug (which we discussed in the “Post It On The Feed” segment of the show), and the main attraction of all time… Mr. P “Baby Oil” Diddy and all his drama throughout his mess. Since I’m just getting back to the groove of things, let’s simplify this music moment and do a few album reviews of some popular hip-hop artists.

Album Review – Megan Thee Stallion “MEGAN: Act II”

Retrieved from https://bendodson.com/projects/itunes-artwork-finder/

Megan Thee Stallion released Part 2 of her self-titled album on Oct. 25, 2024, with her lead single, “Neva Play (feat. RM of BTS),” and the music video for “Bigger In Texas.” After seeing the music video for it, I can absolutely agree with Megan’s statement. This album consists of 13 new songs on top of the 18 released tracks from the first part. My top 3 favorites off the album were “Roc Steady (feat. Flo Milli),” “TYG (feat. Spiritbox),” and “Bigger In Texas.”

Part 2 of the album was a total switch-up, and I enjoyed it. I will say that the cover art of MEGAN: Act II felt old-school to me, and I’m happy that Ms. Stallion kept that type of vibe of the album. This raises the question of whether Megan Thee Stallion will continue the album saga with “Act III” or move on to the next idea. Regardless, she owns her masters while remaining independent, so it’s up to her what her next story is.

I’ll give the album a ⭐3.9 stars out of 5⭐

Album Review – GloRilla “Glorious”

Retrieved from https://bendodson.com/projects/itunes-artwork-finder/

Before I say my thoughts on “Glorious,” I thought her previous project, “Ehhthang Ehhthang,” was her debut album. It turns out that it’s a mixtape… which confused me about why it’s considered a mixtape in the first place. Maybe I’ll do another music moment where I discuss my understanding between a mixtape and an album 🤷🏽‍♂️

GloRilla released her long-awaited debut album on Oct. 11, 2024, with her lead single, “TGIF,” and the music video for “Whatchu Know About Me (feat. Sexyy Red).” The album comprises 15 songs featuring Megan Thee Stallion, Muni Long, Latto, T-Pain, and many more. My top 3 favorites off the album were “Let Her Cook,” “I Luv Her (feat. T-Pain),” and “TGIF” (Side Note: go onto our Instagram page, @thewolfuwg, and check out the mashup I did with “TGIF”).

This was solid for her first album under Yo Gotti’s label, Collective Music Group, and I’m happy that she found her voice throughout her whole experience. I’ve seen the growth since her breakout single, “F.N.F.,” and I’m glad she elevated off that song. On top of that, the album’s first-week sales were the highest out of any female rapper. Yeah, Glo! That’s how you do it🔥 I hope to do the same one day regarding my music.

I’ll give the album a ⭐4.3 out of 5⭐

Album Review – Tyler, The Creator “CHROMAKOPIA”

Retrieved from https://bendodson.com/projects/itunes-artwork-finder/

It’s been a long time since I listened to a good Tyler, The Creator album, and My God, do I miss it (Not saying I don’t like his music; I just haven’t seen Tyler, The Creator blow up my feed in a while to even noticed. I still love his music regardless).

Tyler, The Creator released his 8th studio album on Oct. 28, 2024, with the lead single, “Noid.” (Side Note: For the rest of this part, I’m going to abbreviate his name to “T.T.C”) The album consists of 14 songs with “no featured artists,” but later revealed to be with Daniel Caesar, Schoolboy Q, Lil Wayne, Doechii, and many more. My top 3 favorites off the album were “Sticky,” “Darling, I (feat. Teezo Touchdown),” and “Judge Judy.” The entire album was fully done by T.T.C. himself, the songwriting, the production, engineering, and everything in between.

The entire rollout of the album was outstanding; even so, the day after the release, he hosted a surprise concert in Atlanta for only $5… $5🤯!!! I would buy myself a meal deal at McDonalds with that money to get the opportunity to go to that concert. I couldn’t go, obviously, since I’m a student at the end of the day, and I got to lock in for my final semester. Anyway, the album was fantastic, to say the least. It had so many twists and turns that it made me feel like I was on a musical roller coaster. Plus, this project is perfect for a night-time drive every day of the week.

I would give the album a ⭐4.8 out of 5 stars⭐

Conclusion

And that’s all I have for you for today’s Music Moment. If this goes well, I’ll attempt to continue these blogs until I graduate. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and continuing to enjoy music like I do. Before I graduate, my goal is to let someone else carry the torch to continue giving music discoveries, analysis, music… EVERYTHING! I want to give others the opportunity to create their own “Music Moment” so that they can discuss it further and elevate the music industry tenfold. This may be the end of the M.C. Hour, but it’s grown into something bigger: “The Feed.” Once again, tune in to “The Feed” on Thursdays @ 4 PM EST, only on WOLF Radio.

Until next time, M.C. Scobes is out!

I, Matthew Scoby, am a music artist from Newnan, GA (M.C. Scobes), and a student at the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, GA. Music has always been in my life since he was born, so having this passion, I'm hoping to have a career somewhere within the music industry or radio industry... or at least any career involving music.
