Howlin Wings Review: Convenient, Costly, and… Kinda Bland?

A while back, we put together a list ranking the best wings around Carrollton. At the time, one spot hadn’t opened yet, Howlin’ Hot Wings. Now that it’s finally here, it was only right to circle back and see how it stacks up.

Howlin’ Hot Wings is located right beside the bookstore on campus, which immediately gives it a huge advantage when it comes to convenience. It’s clearly aiming for the college crowd, and location-wise, they nailed that part.

The Menu

Howlin’ Hot Wings keeps it simple, wings and drinks only. No tenders, no sandwiches, no extras. Just wings.

Their flavor lineup includes:

  • Mild
  • Ranch
  • Garlic Parmesan
  • Lemon Pepper
  • Sweet Chili Sriracha Honey
  • Chipotle Citrus BBQ
  • Spicy Peach Glazed
  • Hot
  • Creamy Ghost Pepper

Plenty of flavor options, which is always a good sign.

Convenience: 10/10

This is where Howlin’ Hot Wings shines the most. Being on campus makes it easily the most convenient wing spot in Carrollton. If you’re between classes or studying late, it’s hard to beat that location.

Wing Size: 8/10

The wings themselves are a solid size. No real complaints here. they look like what you’d expect when you order wings.

Sauce: 8/10

The sauces do a lot of the heavy lifting. Flavor-wise, they’re good and honestly saved the wings overall. Without the sauce, there wouldn’t be much to talk about.

Price: 2/10

This is where things start going downhill.
I ordered 10 wings and a bottle of water, and it came out to $15 and some change. Another option is 5 wings, fries, and a drink also costs around $15.

Everything is charged separately, very much like Five Guys. While that model works for burgers, it feels steep for wings, especially on a college campus.

The Wing Itself: 2/10

Unfortunately, the biggest letdown was the actual chicken. The wings were very bland, with little flavor on their own. If the sauce hadn’t been there, these wings would’ve been tough to finish.

Crispiness: 2/10

If you’re a fan of crispy wings, this might not be your spot. They were soft and lacked that crunch that really makes wings enjoyable.

Final Rating: 5/10

Howlin’ Hot Wings sits right in the middle for me. The location and sauce flavors help a lot, but the price, lack of crispiness, and bland wings hold it back.

If you’re on campus and craving wings quickly, it’s convenient and serviceable. But if you’re looking for the best wings in Carrollton, this probably isn’t taking the top spot at least not yet.

Still worth trying once, especially if you’re curious. Just don’t go in expecting greatness.
