Every spring, the strength culture at the University of West Georgia levels up with one of the most intense and exciting events on campus, the Iron Wolf Powerlifting Competition.
Hosted by University Recreation (UREC), Iron Wolf isn’t just about lifting heavy weights. It’s about discipline. It’s about focus. And honestly? It’s about proving to yourself that you’re stronger than you think.
Iron Wolf brings together students from all backgrounds to compete in the three classic powerlifting movements: squat, bench press, and deadlift. Whether you’ve been training for years or you’ve just discovered your love for lifting, this competition creates a space where effort meets opportunity. Competitors are placed into weight classes, and awards are given for top lifters in each class, individual lift standouts, and overall performance.
But what makes Iron Wolf special isn’t just the numbers on the bar.
It’s the energy in the room.
From early morning weigh-ins to the last deadlift of the day, the atmosphere is electric. Teammates hype each other up. Friends crowd around platforms. First-time competitors battle nerves. Experienced lifters chase personal records. And when someone hits a huge lift? The entire room feels it.
Events like Iron Wolf reflect what campus recreation is really about.. community. It’s not just about who lifts the most weight; it’s about showing up, setting goals, and pushing limits in an environment that supports growth. For some students, this is their first competition ever. For others, it’s another chapter in their strength journey. Either way, the platform becomes a space where confidence is built rep by rep.
And the best part? It’s free to enter and open to students who want to challenge themselves.
If you’ve been training quietly all semester, this is your moment. If you’ve never competed but always wondered what it feels like, this is your sign. Strength looks different on everyone, and Iron Wolf celebrates that.
So mark your calendar. Train with purpose. Step onto the platform.
Because at the University of West Georgia, wolves don’t just run together, they lift together too.
Come join the fun Saturday April 18, 2026 at the Campus Center starting at 8:00 AM
