RECAP: UWG Wolves vs Delta State Statesmen
By Nick McGahee
The West Georgia Football team is 2-1 and 0-1 in conference following its first loss of the season to Delta State. The Wolves fell last Saturday 17-7. The offense struggled to put points on the board as Willie Chandler was sacked 4 times, and was pressured leading to 2 INTs. One of the interceptions, which came on the Wolves final comeback drive, found its way into DSU hands in the redzone. The offense then imploded on itself on further possessions. Travis Custis totaled 37 yards on 11 carries and the lone Wolves touchdown. DeVontae Jackson ran for 33 yards on 10 carries, but was stopped in the backfield 4 times for losses.
The defense held Delta State to 383 yards, and 2 touchdowns. The Wolves forced 2 field goal attempts, and one DSU attempt was blocked by Tyler Jack. The Defense did give up a touchdown with one second remaining in the first half to give Delta State the lead, 10-7. The Wolves yielded another touchdown in the second half. Special Teams didn’t get it done either, as Trey Wiggins missed a crucial 34-yard field goal.
The Wolves will look to bounce back as they return to action this Saturday, taking on Albany State in the 2017 Homecoming game. Albany State is 2-1 coming into this match-up losing to North Greenville this past weekend. Gates open for tailgate at 10 a.m. and the game kicks-off at 2:05 p.m. at University Stadium.

September 26, 2017 at 4:59 pmGreat game sad the wolves couldn’t pull this game out. I feel like if we had a couple calls go our way and make a few more plays we are undefeated right now.
