A University of West Georgia student is in stable condition after being involved in a shooting in Tuscaloosa, Alabama over the weekend. The victim was rushed to DCH Regional Medical Center after receiving two gunshot wounds to the face, where he was later airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, according to multiple media outlets.

The victim was reportedly visiting Tuscaloosa with friends for the Alabama-LSU football game. At approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning, witnesses reported seeing the victim interacting with three men in an area referred to as “the Strip” near the University of Alabama campus. Reports suggest the sale of narcotics was taking place, according to Tuscaloosanews.com. Witnesses claimed seeing a white four-door vehicle leaving the area after hearing gunshots. The victim was found face down in a parking lot in critical condition. As of Tuesday, the victim’s condition has been updated to stable. Police are still searching for the suspects involved in the shooting.

WLBB reports UWG officials have been in contact with the victim’s family and are cooperating with Tuscaloosa police to work out more details surrounding the shooting.

A GoFundMe campaign has started to raise money for his recovery and as of this publication has raised $5,415.

EDIT: the name of the victim has been redacted in concert with requests from family.
