UWG Greek Community Mourns Member Killed in Car Crash – The WOLF News

By Bode Brooks, The WOLF News Director

The University of West Georgia Greek community came together in a show of support and tribute after tragedy struck an organization within the first week of the semester. David “Austin” Richardson, 19, of Marietta, was killed in a car accident on Saturday, January 14th, and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Richardson, a Freshman studying Engineering at UWG, was leaving work Saturday evening when his 1998 Plymouth Neon was struck head-on by a 2003Β Mercedes Benz CL500 traveling on the wrong side of the road without headlights. Richardson died on the scene. The driver, Tulia Eustache, 57, is being held without bond on charges of vehicular homicide, reckless driving, and DUI.

Tau Kappa Epsilon announced via social media that they had learned of his death on Tuesday, sparking an outpour of support from the Greek community. Members of Kappa Delta Sorority made arrangements to organize a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, prompting attendance of an estimated 500 members of the Greek community. TKE members spoke on memories they had of Richardson. Richardson’s family also attended the service and gave an emotional address advocating the dangers of drinking and driving.
