The WOLF Internet Radio Partners with ReadER on College Radio Day

by Nikole Gianopoulos

On Tuesday, October 6 The WOLF Internet Radio participated for the fifth consecutive year in College Radio Day. Hundreds of college radio stations came together for this day.

The WOLF featured a special edition of their signature Morning Howl for CRD listeners. Giant Jenga, flip-cup tournaments, karaoke and Monster drink samplings were also included in the day’s line-up of activities.

“College Radio Day is a way to show solidarity across the nation’s college stations,” said Operations Manager Shawn Isaacs. “It’s also a way to show everyone that we have a very important purpose to the music industry and college atmosphere.”

In 2011, The WOLF became the official Georgia headquarters of an international effort to highlight the importance of campus radio and bring new listeners to the stations. All stations had complete programming freedom on this day, but were urged to use the day to showcase their stations and to raise funds.

With CRD came the launch of a ReadER children’s book drive supporting the Tanner Hospital Health Services Program. The WOLF parented with the Rotaract Club for the launch of the drive and will be collecting books until December 3. Drops offs can be made at The WOLF’s office or various book drops around campus.

The Tanner ReadER program provides age-appropriate books to every child who visits one of Tanner Health System’s three regional, 24-hour emergency departments. These books will give parents an opportunity to share an escape with their child into a story, away from the trauma or illness that made their visit necessary. More information about the program can be found at: www.tanner.org/tanner-services/emergency-care/tanner-reader/tanner-reader.

“College Radio Day is meant to make sure that our local college radio stations are making an impact in our local communities,” said Promotions Director Sarah Sulski. “Literacy is an important issue for all forms of media, and by participating in the ReadER book drive we can help curb this issue.”
