Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Reaction

By Jessica Jervis-Viville

Stars Wars, where do I begin? It’s hard to imagine a time where you weren’t a part of my life. My father came to this country in the late 70s, and Stars Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope was the first movie he saw in America. I can only imagine the look on his face, as he watched this epic space fantasy.
It would be almost thirty years later when I stumbled across it. I was ten years old and my cousin had been dying to show me this movie she had been watching. “Want to see something cool?” She put the DVD in the TV, and my fasciation began.

Was it the way Yoda talked? The lightsabers? The desire to be Princess Leia? I don’t know, but I was hooked. I watched those movies until the DVDs had been ruined. I walked around the house using a broomstick as a lightsaber. For Halloween, I told my mom I wanted to be a Jedi. In my head, I already was. Here we are over ten years later, and I can still feel the force around me.
On Monday, August 9th Disney released the trailer for Stars Wars: The Last Jedi. I came across it on Twitter, my trusted entertainment news source, and immediately watched it over and over. I felt a rush of emotions excitement, fear, admiration, anticipation, mystery, and intrigue.

Trailer Breakdown:

Rey training with Luke – I love how the there is strong female lead guiding this story. The training doesn’t look like it’s going so well. That sounds familiar.
The close-up of Luke’s robotic hand as Rey hands him his lightsaber – If we recall Luke lost his hand and that lightsaber at the same time in an epic battle.
Kylo Ren staring at his mask and smashing it seconds later – He has serious issues to work on if he’s going to thrive on the dark side. As much as I disliked this character in the first movie, I felt for him emotionally.
General Leia Organa – RIP Carrie Fisher. Thank you for contributions to film industry. You will be missed. Would Kylo Ren dare to kill his mother?
Chewie’s Roar – My favorite character in the franchise.
Finn in a first order uniform – Yes! Finn is okay and it looks like he’s still working on some morality issues, but he is ready to battle.
Kylo Ren reaches his hand out to Rey – Oh Rey! Don’t do it we all know how this turns out.

Biggest takeaway: I think we are going to see Rey and Kylo Ren struggling to figure out their place in this universe. They may have thought they had their path figured out, but everything they thought they knew is about to change.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on December 15th, 2017. Tickets are on sale now. Did you watch the trailer? What did you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
