by Kiesha Elzie

West Georgia took on Valdosta State Saturday night for the final regular season home game. The Wolves started out leading only by a few points in the first half. In the second half both teams began the quarter with several turnovers and many fouls. Jovany Austin had 11 rebounds and 13 points overall which helped the team stay in the lead. Shannon Fowler also played a great game down low with 9 rebounds. Deontre Brown scored 20 points becoming one of the star players of the night.

West Georgia tried to pull away in the second half but Valdosta continued to catch up towards the end which sent the game into overtime. The score in the first couple minutes of overtime was very close. Iakeem Alston and Steph Branch made double figures putting up points for the wolves. Overtime went down to the wire but the wolves stayed in the fight and defeated Valdosta 84-79! This was their 5th straight win and 18th victory of the season which makes them 18-8 overall and 12-2 at home. They are now number two in the Gulf.
